Portland Overview

We just got back into town a couple hours ago. Susan did indeed pass away just a couple hours after I posted the last post. It was peaceful and she did it during the 30 seconds Brittany stepped out of the room. I’m so glad that she was in a great place when she finally let go. Hopewell House made a horrible experience more bearable for Brit and the family.

We flew in the next night and I’m so glad we did. Adam and I got to spend a lot of quality time with Brittany up at Mt. Hood. Susan was definately smiling on us as it was the most amazing conditions Brit or I had seen in years. The only downside of the day was we were there while they were recovering the body of the recovered climber. All of us were very happy to frolick in the snow and hurled many a snowball at each other.

Along with racing go-karts, watching movies and driving around town it was a great 2.5 days in Ptown. I wish it had been for longer or for better situation, but it was great to be home none the less. Brittany may still meet us in Rome for New Year (and we hope she does) but will come to Hawaii for an extended (and much needed) vacation soon as well.

I will post pictures from our trip soon, but right now my shower and bed are calling! 🙂

Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season and are ready for Christmas in just FIVE days!!! 🙂

Prayers please

Well, we knew it was coming but it’s never easy to accept. I just spoke with Brittany and my Mom and Susan is reaching the end. Doctors don’t expect her to make it through the night.

Brittany asked me to be there a long time ago and I had put some money away. As luck would have it, I was able to find my ticket for almost half of what I had planned for so Adam is going to go home with me. We are very thankful we can afford for both of us to go.

This is really hard as Brit and I have been best friends since 1st grade a lot of me feels like I’m losing my mom too. We leave for Europe on Friday and will be returning home on Wednesday. It’s going to be a little tight, but we should have plenty of time to make it.

I’m just asking for your prayers that Susan will be received by our father with open arms and that her passing will be peaceful for both her and her family. I will update again when I have a chance since we leave tomorrow.

What’s the limit?

So, I’m wondering…what’s the abuse limit? I mean, we all hear about child abuse and elder abuse-but what about teacher abuse? If you hit a kid too hard we call the cops, but when 30 kids tell you all day long what a horrible job you are doing, you’re the worst teacher they’ve ever had, they hate your guts, your a bitch, get out of my face, I want a new teacher…where does it end?

I had to call 28 parents tonight to tell them their kid is flunking due to not turning in any work. Oh, and that’s just out of 2 periods. I didn’t have to call 6 families. And you know who’s going to get in trouble? That’s right, because last quarter I had a 44% failing rate which makes me a bad teacher.

Today has definately been one that is making me seriously doubt my decision to stay out the school year. If I could find a job in Colorado at the semester I think I actually would probably take it.

I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong. To be able to look someone in the eye and tell them how worthless they are is pretty much as bad as it gets. I think this is where I’m drawing the limit.

My Birthday

Today I have reached the big 2-6! Wow…feels like any other day except instead of screaching weird sounds, my students are screaming “Happy Birthday Miss!” A calm birthday wish would be just fine…:)

Adam came at lunch to the cafeteria where I was selling water for newspaper and brought a beautiful boquet of purple and yellow flowers, a tuberose & baby roses lei and sushi! I couldn’t believe it! When I walked out of the cafeteria I was serenaded by a hallway full of my former students. It was awesome! I’ve had a smile on my face ever since.

Anyone in the area is invited to come have dinner with us at Bucca di Beppo on Ward Ave. below Dave and Busters. We are making a reservation for 7pm, so let me know so I can add you to the number. 🙂

Sad Day for Broncos Fans

Despite all the Broncos Prayersprayer.jpg

cheers.jpgAnd the wearing of Broncos Parephanalia

And having two buddies at Mile Highmilehigh.jpg cheering our boys on

And putting in our rookie quarterback, Jay Cutlercutler.jpg

The Broncos still lost to the Seahawks 20-23. The Seattle kicker made a field goal with 10 seconds left in the game.

Never fear…we are going to kick booty next weekend because the Broncos Fans, Chapter HMH463 will be reunited back here on the island.
