Archive for Life in Iraq

Guten Tag!

For those of you non-German speakers, that’s “hello” from Adam. He called me at 4am from Frankfurt, Germany. He sounds like a new man…well, he did have a beer in hand when I talked to him. They were leaving in about 30 minutes for Canada. So, he should be on his way to Chicago by now.

We have been told we may hear from then while they’re there, but Adam said that they were only having about an hour layover at each stop. We’ll know when they’ll get to us when they leave Oakland sometime tonight.

I am so excited. I have permanent butterflies! Got my special dress yesterday from my designer friend, Ivy. She designed me a dress for his homecoming. Hooray!!!

We’re down to hours now!

Leaving Kuwait

Hi all.

Still haven’t heard from Adam himself, but our CO’s wife keeps us pretty up to speed.  Latest word is they are on a plane waiting to leave Kuwait. Next stop is Germany. Only a couple more days until he is back on US soil! Finally.

Sorry there’s not more to post.  I promised to tell what I know and presently, this is it. 🙂

On a plane to Kuwait

I just talked to Adam this morning and as of right now they should be boarding a C5 to Kuwait! I just got word that wives are to have their cell phones on them at all times starting today.  I AM SOOOO EXCITED!!!

Everyone is running around like maniacs over here. I just flew in yesterday from Portland and it has been non-stop since then.  Nevermind that I still have essays to grade (oops). I have been cleaning every crevice of our townhouse for his arrival.  Kind of silly because it’s an older place and there’s only so much that endust and lysol can do. 🙂

Just wanted to let you all know.  I should be getting a phone call in the middle of the night to let me know they have arrived.  Oh boy, let the crazy hour phone calls begin. They’ve got quite the milkrun to get back here. Through Kuwait, Germany, Ireland, Canada, Chicago, Oakland then finally Hawaii! Whew! They’re going to be exhausted, so are we from all the time changes I’m sure.

I’ll write anytime I hear something new.  Hope all is well with you and yours.

Turn over of authority

Just got this from our CO and wanted to pass it onto everyone:

As of 0700 Iraqi standard time on Saturday, 7 October 2006 (8:00pm Friday, 6 October Hawaii Standard time), the Marines and Sailors of HMH-463 stood down from their duties and transferred their responsibilities to the Marines and Sailors of HMH-363.

During this time period your Marines and Sailors served our Country with Honor, Courage, and Commitment.  4000 flight hours were flown in support of Iraqi Freedom, moving over 24,600 passengers and 2.3 million pounds of cargo.

Be proud of your Marines and Sailors.  They have done some amazing things out here in the sands of Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  They have set the bar high for others to follow.   Our duties now change to finalizing out pack up and clearing the barracks.  We still do not have the time we will be leaving Al Asad, but it should be around the 10th of October.  We are still scheduled to leave Kuwait in route to Kaneohe Bay on the 12th of October arriving on the 13th of October at 0700 local.  We will continue to pass updates of our travel plans.

On be half of all of us out here in Al Asad,  thanks so much for your heartfelt thoughts and prayers…..we are counting the days to our return!

WE GAVE A DATE!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the call from my KV (Key Volunteer) and we have an “official” date!  It should be Friday the 13th at 7am! Yikes…a little early!

However, if I have learned anything during this deployment it is…don’t trust anything they say.  Therefore, this date or time could change at any moment.  I’m just glad to have a date to work with along with knowing now that I don’t have to change my date to come home from Portland early. (that’s where I am right now).

Hope all is well with all of you!

Cheers!!!  He’s almost home!!!!!

Offficial Adam Stats

Adam sent me his flying stats.  Currently, he is #1 in flight hours.  I’ll let him tell you in his words

The number of hours Ive flown so far is 333.5. And as a squadron we have flown 2975. We have carried 19,000 passengers and moved 1.7 million lbs of cargo. Not bad I would say.”

He is exhausted and being asked to be taken off the flight schedule for a while.  I’m glad!  We’re about back to how much time we thought we had left when we got the news.  Only 7 weeks to go…unless they change it again! Ugh!

Hope this news finds all of you well.  I will try to write again soon.

Very sad news

I didn’t put this up yesterday because we’re pretty devistated with the news that just came out. Adam did not make the advanced party list. Even though he left before main body, he is “technically” not advanced party since he didn’t come with the very first group of guys. The list we had before had him and several other guys on it, but the wives got another list yesterday that was totally different. So, instead of coming back mid-September it will now be mid-October. We just doubled how long we had left.

It’s hard to talk about and I’ve been really depressed since I heard the news. What I wrote is pretty much all I know. There’s a lot of question marks. Adam is really upset too. So, for now that’s all either of us really have to say about the subject. Sorry for the brevity of this post…still getting used to the idea.

More ridiculous pictures…

Aaron sent Katy a camera full of pictures from Iraq and these jems were on it.

scary-movie.jpgAdam watched “Hostel” and was scared to pieces aparently. 🙂

tomrocksout.jpgThey also bought some guitar jammin’ game for playstation, which you see Tom rocking out to.

nonalcoholic.jpgLastly, as you know Iraq is a “dry country” so they have been given non-alcoholic beer…obviously they are not thrilled! LOL

Evacuation in Lebanon

Adam asked me to let all concerned parties know that he is not involved in evacuating the Americans from Lebanon.  The Marines who are taking them out were on their way to Iraq and made a detour.  They also fly 53 Echoes, whereas Adam flies Deltas.

He says “hi!” to everyone and is doing well even though he is tired.  He comes back in 56 days! 🙂

New pix from Adam

I have received a request to see more pictures of Adam.  He sent these from their maintenence day about a week ago.  Don’t get too excited…that’s Coors Non-Alcoholic.  The boys are not impressed. 🙂

Adam has less than two months until he gets back!!!
